The Roanoke Girls is a dark heartbreaking tale about the girls of the Roanoke family and the secrets that the family keeps. Amy Engel writes this story so well that you are able to be immersed in this tail. The characters are well developed as well as their back stories. You will want to keep reading to see what happens next as you go between the past and the present.
This book also encompasses some social taboos such as abortion, murder, sexual abuse, incest, and suicide. The book is very raw so when you read it just know you will encounter these topics within the characters in the story. Many people may not feel comfortable with these topics but I can say that the story is well developed and would not have the same impact on the reader without these elements.
So when you read the story, just know the Roanoke Girls have lots of secrets and you will uncover them all through the pages of the book.
