Petals: A Novel is a very good novel about a young girl named Carly whose recovering from her mothers death but is also learning about her fathers Guatemalan culture. I do not want to give away the story but it is worth the read.
The characters are well developed and the experience of her visit to Guatemala is written so well we also become culturally immersed as we follow her experience. I love how Laurisa White Reyes steps outside of the normal zone for readers and allows us to see a young lady learning about her other family outside of her mothers American heritage. I feel this book is a good read for all that enjoy YA fiction and a refreshing style of writing!
